Alfieri has practiced with Alfieri Family Chiropractic, at 3484 Blue Star Highway in Saugatuck, for more than a decade. And, while she enjoys help-ing patients by diagnosing and treat-ing common spinal misalignments that can occur from lifestyle or injuries, causing pain, discomfort and degenerative conditions, she special-izes in working with children and families. Dr. Alfieri said becoming a chiropractor was a “pretty obvious” choice. “I was born in Iowa when my dad (Dr. Frank Alfieri) was going through chiropractic school,” she said. “I guess it was always meant to be for me.” Growing up in a chiroprac-tic family meant that Alfieri benefit-ted from that type of healthcare, learning the methodologies and receiving the treatments along the way. She also grew to love the freedom and flexibility her father’s job had – leaving him opportunities to spend a great deal of time with his kids. “When I graduated high school, I knew I wanted to have a family someday and I also loved healthcare,” she said. “I had a little bit of an edge with my hands since I’d been adjusted since I was a newborn. “ Y o u see the benefits throughout your life – and growing up in the clinic.” Dr. Alfieri, a Fennville resident and mother of children ages 12, 10, 7 and 6, sees many younger patients, new-borns, pregnant women and people in general with spinal issues. “I enjoy helping them stay comfortable,” she says. “I have gone to hospi-tals and adjusted newborns – especially after a c-sec-tion. “The adjustment you give a child is so much more soft tissue than an adult would have. The tech-nique is so different. “I’ve seen a variety of patients, from people who have been in automobile accidents and have had extremities amputated to women with breech babies that need to be turned.” Alfieri Family Chiropractic may be able to treat: back pain, sciatica, neck pain, shoulder pain, headaches, sports injuries and auto accident injuries. “It’s important to see a chi-ropractor at some point during your life – just like you would see a den-tist,” she said. “Your spine and nervous system are the most important part of your body and it’s important to have it checked once or twice a year just to make sure you are functioning prop-erly and so someday down the road you are not in pain.” Some patients may feel hes-itant to make their initial visit, she explained. But, adjustments are really beneficial to any type of patient will-ing to try it. There is so much research that supports what we do. Many patients come in for pain management with shoulder, lower-and mid-back pain. Often children come in for relief from ear infection pain, bed wetting and con-ditions in which chiropractic help may not even be obvious. “I try to encourage people to try something that isn’t going to have a side effect the way medicine can,” she said. “Although I know the value of chiropractic help from personal experience, my own testimony of hav-ing children who are healthy, doing well and thriving – who get adjusted -is a strong reason for people to want to bring their children in.” The small, family-run prac-tice is very comfortable and focused on connecting with people, adding personal touches to patients’ care plans, and trying to develop relation-ships.
