First Congregational Is The Perfect Fit For Reverend Brink

The head pastor position is the perfect fit for Reverend Rob Brink.

After a year-long search for head pastor, the Rev. Brink will lead the congregation at First Congregational Church, 296 Hoffman Street, this Sunday.

“It’s a very long and convoluted process,” said Rev. Brink. “It’s not just a job. It’s the right fit that we’re all after. And I am excited that both the search committee and I worked together for this.” Rev. Brink returns to Michigan with his wife and two young boys ready to learn about the new congregation and community.

Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., Rev. Brink grew up in Traverse City. He attended Minnesota Bible College, now called Crossroads College, and the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. He describes himself as a moderate – politically, theologically and socially.

While Rev. Brink has never been a senior minister until now, he has been a full-time Congregational minister for nine years including time at served at 2nd Congregational Church of Beloit, Wisconsin, and 1st Congregational of Wauwatosa, Wisc.

“It’s awesome to come back to Michigan. I have already been able to reconnect with extended family.” Rev. Brink credits interim pastor Liam Battjes and the members of First Congregational Church for staying strong during the arduous year long search process.

“They were more interested in the true me. I told them they weren’t going to find the stereotypical minister with me,” said the 32-year old who has a love for gaming. He uses his gaming skills on Facebook, Twitter and on his blog.

He also gives technology talks for churches and regional meetings.

Other hobbies include playing blues and rock songs on his guitar, reading sci-fi and history, jogging and biking.

Rev. Brink hopes to quickly acclimate to the community. He and his wife Jessica are in the final process of closing on a local home.

“It’s more than just the church community. I’m not going to stay behind my office door and study.

People will see me. I have a half-in, half-out of the office work routine.” He also has an open door office policy and encourages people to stop in and say hello.

“What drew me here was constant authenticity. We’re going to have a lot of fun together.” Rev. Rob Brink will be behind the pulpit this Sunday, October 11 at 10 a.m. at First Congregational Church.
